BOTOX® has an almost magical aura about it and the news is all good. The people that understand and use BOTOX® frequently develop a dedication and great enjoyment of its effects. The various articles and sources available to us everyday, (T.V., internet, newspapers, magazines, party conversation, et cetera) mention the word BOTOX®.

BOTOX® is a form of botulinus toxin but as with many toxins it becomes a great benefit in tiny doses. In tiny doses, BOTOX® can relieve many forms of headaches, neck spasm and resultant pain, and excessive sweating of the hands, feet, armpits, and forehead. The drug has many medical applications in addition to its cosmetic or appearance benefits.

BOTOX® in one form or another has been around for many years. Its medical use initially was to treat spasms about the eyes that plague some people. Its early treatment uses have expanded greatly because it is a wonderful product that is safe and effective.

Without doubt, the areas most frequently treated cosmetically include the forehead transverse lines, the frown-furrow lines, the crow’s feet areas, drooping unhappy corners of the mouth, and neck bands.

Treatment is very easy and consists of an injection of tiny amounts of BOTOX® into the muscles whose activity causes wrinkles and deep furrows. Less muscle strength equals less lining. The injections are done with a 30 gauge (tiny) needle that is very short. Areas are pretreated with ice and sometimes vibration to minimize discomfort. Discomfort is minimal even to needle shy people (most of us).

Although BOTOX® treatments are free of any serious complications, small bruises are possible. Avoiding aspirin and Advil (ibuprofen) type substances can help avoid bruising.

Rarely the BOTOX® can cause a small eyelid droop which will resolve untreated or can be immediately corrected with Iopidine or over-the-counter eye drops that are used to decrease redness in the white of the eye (vasoconstrictor).

BOTOX® effects usually last 4 to 5 months but can be longer or shorter. Dosage per area depends on the size of the muscles and strength of the muscles. For example, a large male with deep lines may take more BOTOX® than a lady with smaller delicate facial muscles.

BOTOX® is priced either by the area or by the unit. Both work okay. I prefer the unit pricing because it helps patients understand their exact needs per area.

All BOTOX® is BOTOX® by Allergan and this is the only legal product of this type authorized in the USA by our FDA.

In the world of cosmetic surgery and cosmetic treatments (BOTOX®, Juvederm, Restylane, Evolence, et cetera), I feel these are the stars and comets. Comets zip through the sky, make a much celebrated appearance, and then disappear. Stars are more or less forever and keep shining away for millions or billions of years. BOTOX® is definitely a star and is here to stay for a long time.

BOTOX® is widely used in both men and women with pleasing success. It is fun to do BOTOX® treatments because they work so consistently well. BOTOX® is simply one of the all time great products both for medical treatment (headaches) and for enhancement of appearance.
