Another Propofol Death in the Bay Area During Facelift
Another propofol death has been reported as occurring in the Bay Area. The death occurred during a facelift. This is the same drug that killed Michael Jackson. It is illegal to use this drug without an anesthesiologist present, but some foolish, non ABPS doctors do it all the time. American Board of Plastic Surgeon surgeons agree to never do this and do not. The death occurred in the East Bay and again no anesthesiologist was present. The non certified doctor and a technician were the only ones present. The patient couldn’t breathe and died. The doctor was trying to save money and basically killed the patient. Be sure your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Be sure your doctor is a real surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Any doctor in California can call themselves a surgeon. Very scary. Go only to the best doctors. Don’t die during cosmetic surgery.

Plastic Surgery Fraud
I am ceaselessly amazed At false presentation of results in plastic surgery. This comes most frequently in the form of pre and post operative photos that are simply not valid. Daily there are photos in magazines and newspapers of results after liposuction that are pure fraud. How is this?
1. Again and again there are pre and post photos that are touched up with Photoshop. Look carefully. You can usually tell.
2. Again and again there are fraudulent presentations where a supposed patient is obviously forcing out their stomach on the fake pre ops and then holding for dear life the tightened stomach muscles on the post op.
3. Then there is the huge photo of a supposed patient’s rear end on the pre op and the post op photo shows a tiny person twice as far from the camera.
4. Then there is the lighten up the flash photo to show the miraculous disappearance of facial lines after some miracle machine to supposedly produce beauty does its work. Of course the pre op photo is taken with a dim or better yet no flash. A fraudulent photographic enhancement showing only trickery.
Beware of this nonsense. Dont’ be a fool. If you see this avoid that doctor. Competent surgeons do not have to do these absurd thing. They simply do good work. Always select a plastic surgeon that is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. While this is no guarantee, its a good place to start

Men hate massive breast implants that produce clown like appearance.
MASSIVE BREAST IMPLANTS MAKE A WOMAN LOOK LIKE A CLOWN; MEN HATE THEM AND MAKE PATHETIC JOKES!
Q: What Amount of Cc’s Would Best Fit my Frame? 800cc Range or Smaller? (photo) TINY 5 FT 3 IN 21 YEAR OLD WOMAN given horrible advice for 800 cc implants by some surgeon.
A: Breast size is best that looks natural and harmonious with body.
Breast implants that look best for a given person fall within a range that takes into consideration the persons total body makeup. Harmony is the desired result. It is fine to be harmoniously larger or smaller, but enormous size implants produce trouble and result in a grotesque, distorted, ugly endpoint. So I tell patients that for their size frame, height, weight etc there are 3 sizes possible. These are right size right, right size smaller, and right size larger. There can even be a right size + larger but not enormous. Enormous implants quickly sag, they are painful, they make the woman look ridiculous and not very smart. Extreme implants are painful. Men deplore woman with enormous breast implants and in fact laugh at them and make jokes about them. These are not nice jokes, and such ladies with enormous breast implants are not kindly refereed to with nice phrases. The guys who pretend to like enormous breast implants laugh at the women behind their backs. I am not talking about women with normal large breasts. These women look lovely and natural. I am referring to the clown like appearance of the “Big Betty Boobs with Enormous Implants Look” 800cc? I have never used an implant that large and have never seen one used at Stanford University that large. Where did you get that insane number? If a surgeon gave it to you, avoid that surgeon. The extreme maximum for you is likely in the 450 plus or minus range with a high of 500. Dancer, stripper, performer, whatever, you want to look cute, sexy, and beautiful and certainly not ridiculous. As a final note I will add that even attempting a 800cc implant would likely result in death of your breast tissue and horrible deformity. My Best, Dr George Commons.

Ear Doctors Performing Face-Lifts? From the New York Times.
When 59-year-old Joan decided to undergo surgery from a board-certified doctor, she thought she was doing the right thing. She didn’t realize that his certification was in otolaryngology — ear, nose and throat — not plastic surgery.
Her mistake resulted in thick scars on her temples and a wavy abdomen. She was forced to spend her savings to get a real plastic surgeon for correctional surgery.
We’re living in an age where gynecologists offer breast augmentation, ophthalmologists do liposuction, and family practice physicians give Botox injections. The result is a rise in disfigured patients.
“For a certain group to wage a turf battle and say for financial reasons that they are the only ones who can safely perform cosmetic procedures is hypocritical and grossly untrue,” said Dr. Angelo Cuzalina, the president of the rival American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, composed primarily of doctors who are not board-certified plastic surgeons. Note to prospective patients: do not undergo surgery with a doctor who claims to belong to this organization.
Only Texas, California, Louisiana and Florida mandate that doctors be specific in their advertising about which specialty board certifications they have. Elsewhere they may say just that they are “board-certified.”

How RNs Keep Patients Safe and Alive
Before you have surgery in any facility be sure the facility has RNs (Registered Nurses) on duty 100% of the time. Facilities with quality and safety have RNs are your side when you check in to assure you are healthy and prepared for surgery that day. They confirm you have not eaten, that you are not pregnant, and that you fully comprehend what surgery you will be having.
During surgery RNs do so much. They assure all equipment is working. They assure that the proper operation is done. They assure the heating blanket does not burn you. They assure all oxygen and other lines are probably installed, they assure you are getting the drugs intended, and if emergency occurs they may well save your life.
RNs have 6-10 years of training and all have the ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support certification) so they can help keep you safe and alive. They help both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist in the conduct of your procedure.
In recovery a patient is still very sleepy and must be carefully monitored 100% of the time. The RNs do this with dedication. If you are not carefully monitored and watched, you can sleep to death because you simply forget to breathe. RNs never let this happen. Without RNs in attendance plastic surgery patients die every year. In my legal practice as an expert witness, I have seen this happen all too often.
Some MDs do not hire nurses in order to make more money. This is an unfortunate reality of the medical industry. Never have plastic surgery in a facility that does not have RNs at your side 100% of the time. Your life, health, and results depend upon the RNs caring for you.
Remember, in California anyone can call themselves nurses. You must make your doctor prove and guarantee in writing that RNs will be at your side 100% of the time.
